How to connect ChatGPT to Google Ads (read-only, no code)
Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, create a custom connector with the address of a Google Ads MCP server, and sign in with Google. It works on paid ChatGPT plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu). With a read-only connector like Ads MCP, ChatGPT can find wasted spend but cannot change your account.
How ChatGPT reaches Google Ads
ChatGPT has no built-in Google Ads integration. It reaches outside tools through custom connectors that speak MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard many AI assistants share. A Google Ads MCP server signs in to Google on your behalf and turns ChatGPT's questions into Google Ads API requests.
Custom connectors live behind ChatGPT's Developer mode, which OpenAI describes in its help center (Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT). It is available on paid plans: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business and Enterprise an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
Connect it step by step
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode. OpenAI has renamed these menus more than once, so look for "Developer mode" if the names differ.
- Create a new connector. Give it a name (for example "Google Ads") and paste the server address:

- For authentication choose OAuth. You don't need to paste any client ID: the server registers ChatGPT by itself.
- Sign in with the Google account that opens your Google Ads, manager accounts included.
- In a new chat, make sure the connector is on, then ask your first question.
Questions worth asking first
- List my Google Ads accounts.
- Which search terms spent money in the last 30 days without converting?
- Give me a negative keywords file for Google Ads Editor with the terms I don't sell.
- I added negatives on the 10th. Did cost per conversion go down after that?
ChatGPT answers with numbers read from the Google Ads API. It is worth checking the account total it states against your Campaigns page the first time, so you know the connection reads the right account.
Why read-only matters here
Some Google Ads connectors can also create campaigns or change budgets from the chat. That saves clicks, and it also means a misunderstood sentence can spend money. Ads MCP only reads: every fix comes back as a file you review and import in Google Ads Editor.
For extra safety, give the Google account you connect the Read-only access level in Google Ads (Admin, Access and security). Then Google itself blocks any change, whatever the software does. The free plan includes 50 tool calls a month.
